Director of Product Development

We are looking for an innovative and proactive Director of Product Development to join the OUAI team! Reporting to the VP of Product Development, this position will be critical in defining and driving innovation throughout the product development life cycle for the brand.

Some of the day-to-day:

  • Partner with VP of Product Development, Founder and Marketing to define new products, concepts, innovation and strategy
  • Oversee key projects, competitive research, testing and analysis, product development milestones, and overall NPD timing
  • Expertise in seeking and driving innovation from product concept and competitive evaluation, to vendor briefing and product iteration cycle
  • Strong beauty background and market knowledge in competitive trends, brands, formulations, and design
  • Strong presentation skills in new product ideas, product enhancements, redesign, and positioning
  • Technical expertise in translating and driving innovation through new product formulation, innovative ingredients and fragrance
  • Oversee competitive and iterative user testing and results
  • Evaluate and direct formula submissions from lab, pilot, production, including establishment of technical quality standards
  • Direct regulatory processes, technical risk management and reporting
  • Direct claims development, testing parameters and results
  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams in Education, Marketing and Sales to ensure accuracy in inspiration, story, claims, ingredients
  • Evaluate practicality of products with Operations team, ensuring the highest standard of quality and performance to budget and portfolio
  • Strong background in managing NPD timing and milestones, risk analysis, mitigation and reporting
  • Manage business and supplier relationships with R&D, compliance, regulatory, consultants, chemists and technicians to deliver against product innovation, legal, and marketing requirements
  • Meet regularly with raw material houses and vendors to discuss new innovations and ingredients.
  • Keep abreast of competitive activity, consumer insights and trends at global and regional level. Prepare updates and competitive reports as needed.

You have:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of experience in Product Development in cosmetics, personal care, lifestyle or related category
  • Experience and strong relationships with domestic and international suppliers
  • Passion for beauty
  • Very good attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects through strong prioritization and planning
  • Proven track record of taking ownership and driving results
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, ever-changing, collaborative environment
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and InDesign
