As the Director of Communications, you will drive global brand awareness for OUAI through strategic communications and activations with media and influencers. Reporting into the Vice President of Brand Marketing, you’ll lead the in-house Communications team to drive strategy for building earned media value, generating a disproportionate share of buzz for the brand, elevating our positioning in the industry and giving us exposure to new audiences.


  • Lead best-in-class communications, influencer relations, events and partnerships on behalf of the brand
  • Build global communication strategies for all new product launches including media outreach, influencer gifting and content opportunities, launch events, etc.
  • Nurture and grow our community of VIPs, influencers and brand loyalists by fostering relationships, planning unique brand experiences and securing valuable content for our brand
  • Create on-going influencer activations for furthering awareness and education for brand initiatives or hero products in the line
  • Develop the strategy, KPI’s and proposed structure for all identified influencer programs and activations
  • Develop and execute media relations including developing story ideas, pitching outlets, and placing continuous coverage for the brand and its products
  • Perform influencer outreach to potential influencers to engage and discuss opportunities and contract negotiations
  • Maintain strong working relationships with broadcast, print and online journalists as well as bloggers and social influencers, respond to all in-bound PR requests
  • Strategic planning and day-to-day management of external PR agencies, ensure they reach their KPI’s
  • Collaborate with digital and social teams to optimize press and influencer placements across brand channels
  • Focus on country-wide philanthropic partnerships & determine how we tell our brand values through our PR efforts
  • Lead cross functional relationships with brand, product development and other key departments within the company to identify critical product differentiation for storytelling on both regular business and new products
  • Proactively stay up to date with cultural, digital and social trends, and act on those trends when appropriate for the brand
  • Report on monthly press coverage and influencer metrics, proving ROI on our campaigns
  • Manage annual Communications budget


  • Minimum 7 years of Communications, PR or Influencer Marketing experience at an agency or in-house with working on beauty, fashion or lifestyle brands
  • Passion for influencer marketing, public relations, social media and events
  • Strong personal relationships with beauty, fashion and lifestyle media outlets
  • A creative storyteller with the ability to create fresh and compelling narratives that help define our brand positioning within the beauty landscape
  • Proven success as a leader of a team, prior experience managing direct reports
  • Analytical, with experience tracking and reporting on KPI’s for press campaigns
  • Adaptable, resourceful and forward thinking
  • Experience working at innovative, fast-paced startups or indie brands is a plus
  • Experience using influencer management software (i.e. Tribe Dynamics) a plus
